High above the Napa Valley is the 10-acre Alta Vineyard located at an elevation of 1650 feet on the eastern slope of Atlas Peak. The Alta Vineyard faces the Suisun Bay to the southeast and the Vaca Mountains to the East. At this elevation, the vineyard is cooler than Napa in the afternoons, but being above the fog, the vines enjoy sunshine as soon as dawn breaks. Our vines are rooted in rocky volcanic soils. The impoverished soil limits the crop to just about 1 to 1.5 tons per acre of intense fruit. All these elements provide an ideal and uniform growing season. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are the backbone to this wine and the rest of the grapes are under long term contract to our famed neighbor, Kongsgaard Winery.

    • Vintage 2013 represents the inaugural “Quatreaux” release. It is a blend of four classic Bordeaux varietals grown on the mountainsides of four exceptional Napa Valley estates. All the grapes were harvested on the same day. The Cabernet Sauvignon came off our own Alta Vineyard; the Merlot from Stagecoach Vineyard, the Cabernet Franc from Sugarloaf Mountain, and the Petit Verdot from Greenwood in Calistoga.

The four varietals, each at peak ripeness, were co-fermented with native yeasts in an open top tank, giving us this sublime, medium body meritage. The Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are the backbone of this wine, bringing rich texture and supple tannins with beautiful floral notes and dark, ripe berry aromas. The Cabernet Franc has harmonized and stretched out the tannins for a long finish, while also supporting the floral and fruit aromas with hints of tobacco. The Petit Verdot further extends the floral infused bouquet of the wine. After fermentation, the wine was aged for twenty months in French oak, of which 65% was “new wood” and 35% second year.

    • Winemaker Fred Oliai- "...I moved to the Bay Area in 1997 to start a career in software technology. In 2008, along with two other partners, I purchased a 9 acre vineyard in the Atlas Peak district of the Napa Valley. I am fortunate to have forged a long term working relationship with my next door neighbor, John Kongsgaard and his winery. Our vineyard has been supplying Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes to Kongsgaard since 2009. I've learned quite a bit working with Kongsgaard and he has greatly influenced my winemaking style... I like to craft wines that are approachable now, but also have good aging potential. A balance of verital characteristics and oak is what I try to achieve with my wines. I try to avoid using additives and do not filter red wines."
