Sourced from vineyards in California’s greatest wine growing regions. The blend for St. Mathews is coming from small vineyards located in Sonoma Coast and Alexander Valley and Petaluma Gap.

The Blend: 32% Merlot; 20% Cabernet Sauvignon; 15% Zinfandel; 10% Cabernet Franc; 9% Petite Verdot; 7% Tempranillo; 7% Syrah

  • Tasting Notes: This wine is deep purple in color. The nose is fragrant with dark berries and ripe plum, notes of pepper spice and high noted rose petal. The palate is generous with ample texture and weight. Flavors of black cherry and rhubarb show first then reveal more layers of forest fruit and a touch of cedar on the finish.

    • The 2014 vintage offered excellent growing conditions. A mild winter and spring compounded with almost no rain contributed to early ripening, low to moderate yields and highly concentrated grapes resulting in exceptional fruit quality. The 2014 is one the earliest vintages we’ve seen in over a decade, but it will also go down as one of the best.

    • Fermentation: The grapes were picked at dawn then crushed and destemed quickly to tanks while still cold. After a long cold soak, fermentation was started and the tanks were allowed to heat up for maximum extraction of fruit and color. During fermentation the wine was pumped over 3 times per day to give the yeast plenty of oxygen for a nice clean fermenting and good extraction. Once dry the grapes were lightly pressed off the skins and the wine have been barrel down in mix of French and American barrels with 40% new oak
